The Universe, Science & God

“Soon shall We show them Our signs in the universe and in their own selves, until it becomes clear to them that this Qur’an is indeed the truth. Is it not enough that your Lord is a witness over everything?” (Qur’an;41:53); “We did not create heaven and earth and everything between them to no purpose. That is the opinion of those who disbelieve..” (Qur’an; 38: 27), “Verily in the heavens and the earth are Signs for those who believe. (Qur’an; 45:3). “To God belongs the Mystery of the heavens and the earth. And the Decision of the Hour (of Judgement) is as the twinkling of an eye, or even quicker: for God hath power over all things.” (Qur’an; 16:77). “Let there be no compulsion in religion: Truth stands out clear from Error: whoever rejects evil and believes in God hath grasped the most trustworthy hand-hold, that never breaks. And God hears and knows all things.” (Qur’an; 2:255).

Science is beginning to see the entire universe as an interlinked network of energy and information. Our capacity for fulfillment can come only through faith and feelings. But our capacity for survival must come from reason and knowledge." The follower of 3 great monotheistic faiths believe that God created the universe and governs it as per His laid down rules. The atheists reject such a set of beliefs. In philosophy there are many rational, metaphysical, logical, empirical, or subjective arguments for the existence of God. Interestingly the conclusions reached by science recently were mentioned 1400 years ago in the last Testament; The Quran which provides theological, philosophical and scientific evidence of existence of God. To derive maximum benefit it is suggested that the book may be read with an open mind keeping aside the existing ideas.

Faith with Reason

Before going into the subject of doctrine in detail we should define certain terms which frequently appear in books on this subject and which are often used by scholars of Islam. These terms are ‘Doubt’, ‘Presumption’ and ‘Knowledge’. After we have examined them we shall begin to look into the meaning of faith.keep reading  >>>>

Prophet Muhammad [pbuh]

Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), was the last prophet for the entire humanity born in the progeny of great Prophet and Patriarch Abraham  (peace be upon him) by the end of 6th century C.E in Makkah (Arabia). Volumes have been written on his life, achievements and legacy during last fourteen centuries. No human in the history of mankind has left lasting influence like him. He is highly revered by Muslims and many learned non Muslims alike. His well recorded life has been a role model; he preached what he practiced and was supremely successful in his mission to convey the divine message to the humanity. At the time of his death (632 C.E) whole Arabia was purged of paganism blooming to expand the message of Islam [Tawheed, monotheism] to the entire world.
It is not possible to describe a person like him having immense qualities and achievements, completely in a short book or article. An endeavour has been made to introduce The Last Prophet (peace be upon him) with a glimpse in his life through revealing articles in a book & videos. It is hoped that this brief introduction will form the basis for further study of the life of greatest man of history.

Islamic Philosophical Thought & Revivalists

Read online/download:

Generally the people consider philosophy to be a subject of little value and consider its study as waste of time.  It should be known that ‘Philosophy’ not only strengthen the faith but is also the driving force behind any development, progress or descend be it a nation, community, group or civilization. The history is full of examples. It was the faith and philosophy of Islam which transformed the unknown, uncivilized, illiterate Arab tribes, in to the torch bearers of the great civilization with in 23 years, unmatched event in the history of mankind. Then a shift occurred, while at its zenith, its followers failed to face the divine test of devastation they had to suffer in the hands of Mongol hordes and humiliating expulsion from Spain.

They started to concentrate on rituals and ascetic practices, abandoning their philosophy of rational thought, reason and scientific knowledge, the hall mark of their intellectual development. Their heritage of intellectual treasure was slowly allowed to pass on to the West. According to Encyclopedia Britannica: “The decline of Muslim scholarship coincided with the early phases of the European intellectual awakening that these translations were partly instrumental in bringing about.  The translation into Latin of most Islamic works during the 12th and 13th centuries had a great impact upon the European Renaissance. As Islam was declining in scholarship and Europe was absorbing the fruits of Islam's centuries of creative productivity, signs of Latin Christian awakening were evident throughout the European continent. The 12th century was one of intensified traffic of Muslim learning into the Western world through many hundreds of translations of Muslim works, which helped Europe seize the initiative from Islam when political conditions in Islam brought about a decline in Muslim scholarship. By 1300 C.E when all that was worthwhile in Muslim scientific, philosophical, and social learning had been transmitted to European schoolmen through Latin translations, European scholars stood once again on the solid ground of Hellenistic thought, enriched or modified through Muslim and Byzantine efforts.”

Unlike the earlier tradition of Islamic philosophy from al-Farabi to Averroës, which had consciously cultivated political science and investigated the political dimension of philosophy and religion and the relation between philosophy and the community at large, the new approach from its inception lacked genuine interest in these questions, had no appreciation for political philosophy, and had only a benign toleration for the affairs of the world. No worthwhile political philosopher or reformer came up with solution to real problems confronted by Islamic world. The divine guidance in the form of Qur’an and Sunnah of Prophet (peace be upon him) was available so that: “they may ponder its revelations, and that men of understanding may learn lessons from it.”(Qur’an;38:29). But the ‘men of understanding’ were rare.  Centuries have passed but Muslims have failed to correct the historic mistake, to set the priorities right. The result is frustration, extremism, disunity, loss of dignity, self esteem, poverty, deprivation, illiteracy, oppression, economic and political domination by West and others economic giants.

Pillars of Islam

Faith is the confident belief in the truth, value, or trustworthiness of a person, an idea, or a thing. The Belief that does not require logical proof or material evidence. The theological virtue may be defined as secure belief (aymaan) in Allah and a trusting acceptance of Allah's will. The Faith in Islam is belief (aymaan) as described in Qur’an: “Say (O Muslims): "We believe in Allah and the revelation given to us and to Abraham Isma’il Isaac Jacob and the Tribes and that given to Moses and Jesus and that given to (all) Prophets from their Lord we make no difference between one and another of them and we bow to Allah (in Islam).”(Qur’an;2:136). “O believers enter into Islam completely and do not follow the footsteps of Satan, surely he is your clear-cut enemy.” (Qur’an;2:208). Faith is by the Grace of Allah for those who use their reason, Allah says:” It is not possible for anyone to believe except by the permission of Allah, and He throws filth on those who do not use their reason. Say: "Look at whatever exists in the heavens and the earth." Signs and warnings do not benefit those people who do not believe.”(Qur’an;10:100-101).
The faith must withstand the test of time, as per Qur’an; "Do men think that they will be left alone on saying "We believe" and that they will not be tested? "(Qur’an;29:2). “We shall surely test your steadfastness with fear and famine, with loss of property, life and produce. Give good news to those who endure with patience; who, when afflicted with calamity, say: "We belong to Allah and to Him we shall return." Such are the people on whom there are blessings and Mercy from Allah; and they are the ones that are rightly guided.”(Qur’an;2:155-157). "It is He who sent down Tranquility into the hearts of the Believers that they may Add Faith to their Faith; for to Allah belong the Forces of the heavens and the earth; and Allah is full of Knowledge and Wisdom; "(Qur’an;48:4). “Allah's object also is to purge those that are true in faith and to deprive of blessing those that resist faith”. (Qur’an;3:141).
The faith is not complete when it is followed blindly or accepted unquestioningly. Man must build his faith on well-grounded convictions beyond any reasonable doubt and above uncertainty: “Behold!  Abraham said: "My lord! Show me how you give life to the dead." He replied: "Have you no faith in this?" Abraham humbly submitted: "Yes! But I ask this to reassure my heart …"(Qur’an;2:260). Prophet Abraham (peace by upon him) had complete faith in Allah's power, but he wanted, with Allah's permission, to give an explanation of that faith to his own heart and mind.  Islam insures freedom to believe and forbids compulsion in religion.

Islam revolutionized the primitive oppressive societies not only in the Middle East but all over the world. Islamic civilization lead the world for over thousand years, but the cracks started to be noticed since 15th century C.E. Ultimately the Christian West dominated the world through colonization but failed to cause any considerable dent in the ideology of Islam, which is based upon justices, equity & high morality. After end of colonial period the Islam resurged to again dominate the lives of its adherents. In fact despite their propaganda, the Imperialist West could not root out Islam from the hearts and daily lives of Muslims. The colonial powers, replaced Islamic Shari’ah with Western law, but the personnel affairs of Muslims continue to be governed by Shari’ah. During 21st century there is world wide demand among Muslim societies to turn back to Shari’ah but the stooges of colonial masters resist on the pretext of taking society back to the past. In fact the system based upon justice and equity does not suit their oppressive designs to amass wealth and power among few in the ruling elite which controls the power and economic centres. The Arab Spring and other movements in most parts of the Muslim world reflect the desire for change, which has to come since days of oppressor regimes are numbered. Read full >>>>> Read online or download as GoogDoc, or PDF

Amazing Quran: by Garry Miller

Calling the Quran amazing is not something only done by Muslims, who have an appreciation for The Book and who are pleased with it, it has been labelled amazing by non-Muslims as well. In fact even people who hate Islam very much have still called it amazing ...

The Canadian mathematician & theologian Dr.Gary Miller was active in Christian missionary work, but he soon began to discover many inconsistencies in the Bible. In 1978, he happened to read the Qur'an expecting that it, too, would contain a mixture of truth and falsehood. He discovered to his amazement that the message of the Qur'an was precisely the same as the essence of truth that he had distilled from the Bible. He became a Muslim and since then has been active in giving public presentations on Islam including radio and television appearances. He is also the author of several articles and publications about Islam. In his works Gary Miller (Abdul-Ahad Omar) shows how we can establish true faith by setting standards of truth. He illustrates a simple but effective method of finding out the right direction in our search for truth. “Amazing Quran” is one of popular compilation from his talks, reproduced here. View of non Muslims is an addition.
According to Dr.Gary Miller, the one thing which surprises non-Muslims who are examining the book very closely is that the Quran does not appear to them to be what they expected. What they assume is that they have an old book which came fourteen centuries ago from the Arabian desert; and they expect that the book should look something like that - an old book from the desert. And then they find out that it does not resemble what they expected at all. Additionally, one of the first things that some people assume is that because it is an old book which comes from the desert, it should talk about the desert. Well the Quran does talk about the desert - some of its imagery describes the desert; but it also talks about the sea - what it’s like to be in a storm on the sea.
